Hello Fresh

This is not a Keto meal plan. We tried it before I was on Keto.

What is it?

Hello Fresh is a meal service that is delivered directly to your door. Everything is pre-cut (unless it is something that would go bad easily, like apples.) This service has three options: The Veggie Plan, the Classic Plan, and the Family Plan. Each plan has the choice of the number of people and the number of meals per week. (The maximum of people is four.)

Depending on the plan you choose, you may choose how many recipes you would like delivered each week. You can skip weeks as often as you like.

How Does It Work?

It is so simple! After you sign up, choose the plan you are interested in: The Veggie Plan, the Classic Plan, and the Family Plan. Once you have chosen your plan, you choose how many servings you would like. You also choose how many meals that you would like for each week. From there, you select the recipes that you would like delivered. The Classic Plan has the most choices. The Family plan is the most cost effective. The delivery day is chosen for you, but can be changed in your settings.

The meals are very easy to prepare. The directions are listed on both the website and the recipe cards. All of the ingredients for each meal is in a designated bag for it’s recipe, except for the meat, as they place that next to the ice packs.

What We Got

The website offers five choices a week. We chose the two meals a week from the Family Meal Plan. We picked the Chipotle Pulled Chicken Sandwiches and the Sliced Steak Tagliata.

Week 1

Chipotle Pulled Chicken Sandwiches

The whole family loved the sandwiches. We chose not to use the sour cream, as it is not a favorite, but it did not prevent us from loving it. My boys are not fans of salads. Two out of three boys actually liked the carrots slaw and one even said that he would like it if I served that instead of salads from now on. We did not like that the serving size only is for four without the option for five. So, two of us had to split a sandwich.

Sliced Steak Tagliata

This meal had three parts: the steak, the snap peas, and the potatoes. Everyone loved the potatoes and the snap peas. The steak was not as well received. It had a vinaigrette sauce with tomatoes. I loved it. My family told me that they would have preferred the tomatoes to be seperate from the steak. I would definitely make this again but with the tomato as a side.

Week Two

Meatloaf and Mash

This meal was not as much of a favorite as the other three. We were not a fan of the gravy or the spice that was put on the meatloaf. If we were to order this meal again, we would leave both of those out.

One-Pan Orzo Italiano

This was amazing! Everyone in the family liked it. To be honest, I was surprised. I had Orzo in the past that had too much fennel in it. I was expecting this to not be a favorite. Boy was I wrong! It was very flavorful and delicious. We all want it again.

What We Liked

I am an avid Swagbucks user. I really liked that I got “bucks” for trying this program out. Every little bit helps.

The food was very fresh. Each ingredient came in separate sealed baggies. The food was surrounded by many freezer packs, which is fabulous in our Vegas heat.

Both recipes that we tried were flavorful and delicious. The recipe cards were easy to follow and I will be re-using them to re-create these meals again. My children have asked that I re-create some of the recipes in the future. A difficult feat, impressing my sons!

The separate nutritional information card is a life saver. I am on a diet plan that requires me to track my meals. The recipes on the site listed the nutritional information, making it very easy to select ones that would meet my needs. Not to mention, every recipe listed the ingredients clearly.

The website is very user-friendly. You can click on the week you are ordering for and select the dishes you are interested in. Each recipe can be selected to get further information. Even the cooking instructions are available to determine if this will meet your needs. I love the Recipe Archive because I can collect any of the recipes that my family liked to cook on my own.

It has it’s own app, that is also very user friendly. I love that I can go on and make my decisions for each week with just a click!

I love that most of the recipes did not include fish. We are not seafood fans Other meal plans that we have tried were heavy on the fish, making it difficult for us to have any options.

What We Didn’t Like

I didn’t like that there is only one Family Plan option with a serving size of four. We are a family of five. For most of the recipes, this shouldn’t be a problem as they seem plentiful. However, several of the recipes are sandwiches, making it hard to make sure there was enough for everyone.

Almost all of the recipes for the month of June mixed fruit in the dinner; Carrot Apple Slaw, Apricot Balsamic-Glazed Pork Tenderloin, Chicken Pineapple Quesadillas, Maple and Rosemary-Glazed Pork Cutlets, etc. My husband hates that. So, this made it a little difficult for me to choose the meals.

One of the apples had a large bruise. Very simple fix; just cut it off and kept going.
